Position Summary:

The Helping Out People Everywhere (HOPE) Team is a mobile crisis response team that partners with law enforcement in cities throughout Orange County. Under direct supervision of the Manager for the HOPE team, this position assumes responsibility for making behavioral health assessments of clients and provides crisis intervention to residents as directed by city dispatch. The CIS will outreach within the community, share resources, connect with local businesses, and collaborate with schools. This position follows a non-traditional schedule and as such, requires the ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays, seven days a week.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate professionalism while embodying the Be Well mission, purpose, values, and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide exceptional customer service to all clients throughout the community, city partners and customers.
• Work collaboratively and effectively within the team and contribute to building a positive culture.
• Exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views; give and welcome feedback; accept constructive criticism.
• Provide safe, effective, and efficient implementation of direct care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• Maintain awareness of community resources and assist clients in appropriate use.
• Advocate for clients to receive services that meet their needs.
• Make transport decisions regarding client care.
• Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and crisis communication.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population including impoverished and alienated persons.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse, multi-cultural populations with the ability to gain trust and build rapport.
• Document and communicate interactions with clients within required databases.
• Adhere to HIPAA policy and procedures.
• Attend required department meetings and trainings.

Education and Experience
Required

• Bachelor’s degree; combined education and experience may be considered if bachelor’s degree is not complete.
• A minimum of 2 years providing crisis intervention, behavioral health and/or substance use treatment services.
• Valid California driver’s license and insurance.
• Ability to operate a large commercial vehicle, while frequently stopping to climbing in and out during scheduled shift.
• Computer literacy and working knowledge of desktop software.
• COVID-19 vaccination or valid exemption.

Preferred

• Bilingual or multilingual; organization is interested in a variety languages and dialects.
• Basic knowledge medical and psychiatric terminology.
• Experience using a cell phone, laptop and/or two-way radio.
• Familiarity with Orange County resources (behavioral health, substance use, housing, shelter and the like).
