Position Title: Crisis Intervention Specialist
Reports to: Manager, Mobile Response Team
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Range: Based on Experience
Department: HOPE
 

Helping Out People Everywhere (HOPE) Team is a mobile crisis response team by Mind OC. The CRISIS Intervention Specialist is a field responder tasked with assessing and managing the behavioral health issues of people in crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Work Mobile Crisis shifts patrolling the streets and parks of assigned city as dispatched by 911. This can include some weekends, afternoons and evenings. We are open daily.
  • Assume primary responsibility for making mental health assessments of clients and for providing crisis counseling.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the boundaries of clients experiencing emotional distress.
  • Attend required department and clinic meetings and share in other responsibilities as relevant.
  • Make transport decisions regarding patient care and be able to drive a large passenger van.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and crisis communication/management
  • Serve as clinical consultant to Crisis intervention workers

 

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in crisis intervention or delivery of mental health services in non-traditional settings. High School/GED
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population including impoverished and alienated persons.
  • Ability to drive and to repeatedly climb in and out of a commercial van.
  • Ability to operate a cell phone, police radio and lap-top computer.
  • Mission Driven, believes in the Be Well way of treating everyone with kindness, dignity, respect and empathy
  • CPR for healthcare professionals certified or able to ascertain certification. CPI training also a Plus
  • A sense of humor, must have a flexible approach and the ability to embrace change
  • Due to our contractual obligation with the city Police Departments, and the nature of this position, you will need to pass the department’s extensive background check. This includes a lengthy in-person meeting, polygraph examination, and review of the candidate’s criminal report, personal history, employment, education, and discipline
  • Must be vaccinated for COVID or request exemption.
